Bed time stories, school trips to the library, perusing the Scholastic catalogue or book fair for your next read – luckily, our relationships with the literary world started as young children. And your parents hoped that one day you’d get over the monotonous book reports and develop a true love for reading. After years, you started collecting and stacking books on your nightstand. You’d carry a book in your backpack to read while sipping on coffee at a local coffee shop or even traveled with it by plane, car, train or boat to your summer destination. There is nothing like the escape a book offers as you dive into a few hundred pages of adventure, romance or mystery. 

The list of what rests on your book shelf whether it’s a collection of science fiction, horror, fantasy, drama or biographies can go on for days. This summer we ask you to dust off your favorite book and give it a good read. Then, create! Now is your chance to share your favorite book through the art and design. Show us how you connected to the book and what it means to you. Create artwork inspired by a literary piece using the medium(s) you prefer and give it your own interpretation.

To Participate:
Register by Friday, August 14, 2015
$15.00 Registration Fee will be required to cover hanging cost (Multiple submissions will be accepted, but each additional piece will also require the $15 fee. i.e., 2 pieces = $30.)  Each entry receives one free admission into the Summer Show on August 29, 2015.

Please also submit a digital (300 dpi at 7.75 x 9.75") proof for our online gallery by August 21, 2015 and any questions to aigasummershow@gmail.com. 

Artwork Specifications:
Size: 7.5” x 9.5” with 1/8” bleed (for matting and framing purposes).  

The final artwork should be trimmed to exactly 7.75″ x 9.75″ for matting and framing purposes. You may work in whatever medium you’d like (digital design, print making, collage, sketch, paint, photograph, etc.) but materials must be archival and flat enough to hang.

Further Details:
Away with Words is a fundraising event for AIGA Toledo. Funds raised during this event is used to give back to the community through design related programs. All submitted artwork/designs are considered to be donated artwork and will be available to the public for purchase via silent auction on the evening of the event Saturday, August 29, 2015. Minimum reserve will be $25. More details on the event to come.
