AIGA Toledo's Design Week
presented by Communica

From the products we use to the way we visually communicate, design is all around us and touches every aspect of our lives. Design Week is a time for us to come together as a community and celebrate design and its potential to create social change for the better. Join us September 21-28 as AIGA Toledo brings you three amazing events that will redefine your perception of “good” design as we showcase a solid week of the “Design for Good” ethos.

We kick off Monday, September 21 with Call To Action, featuring two marvelous speakers from different sides of the design world. Dan Klyn, renown information architect and co-founder of The Understanding Group, will share with us “What Good Means” in the context of digital design drawing upon lessons from the design of physical spaces. And Kate Hunt, experience designer and former director of Design for Good - AIGA West Michigan, will share insights about her experience helping the design community thrive in Grand Rapids. Held at the beautiful Owens Community College's Center for Fine and Performing Arts, these dynamic speakers will leave you feeling inspired and better connected to your purpose in the industry. With the generous support of the Toledo Web Professionals, we invite people of all backgrounds and skill levels to join us for an evening of networking, refreshments and thought-provoking presentations.

On Thursday, September 24 in partnership with the Toledo Museum of Art, we bring you Design Briefs. Connecting Toledo’s creative class with entrepreneurs, we will seek to create positive social impact through solving problems together. During the event, business owners or aspiring entrepreneurs present their story along with real business challenges they are currently facing and a panel of design and business professionals will offer their feedback and advice. The attendees will then have the opportunity to brainstorm and interact during dynamic breakout sessions, as they collaboratively explore ideas on how to overcome the obstacles. Hosted by the Toledo Museum of Art at their beautiful Glass Pavilion, Design Briefs will be an experience you won’t want to miss.

Finally, we finish the week on Monday, September 28 with a talk from legendary strategist and designer Doug Powell. After more than two decades as an independent designer, educator, and community leader, Doug is now helping to lead a design-driven transformation at IBM, one of the largest technology companies in the world. In a wide-ranging discussion, Doug will explain how the role of the designer is changing in technology, business and society. As the past national president of AIGA and a leading force in the successful launch of Design for Good, Doug has been an outspoken thought leader and advocate to ignite, amplify, and accelerate design-driven social change. Join us at the Wolfe Center for the Arts on the BGSU Campus to hear his story.
